Fort Wayne traffic & road closures: FAQ
Answers to common questions about checking traffic in Fort Wayne and Allen County, Indiana.
Questions & answers
How do I check Fort Wayne road closures today?
Open the Detour FW road closures page. It lists every current closure and restriction we have from the City of Fort Wayne's TREC closure system, INDOT work zones on state roads and interstates in Allen County, and Citilink bus detours, with dates and locations. The live map on the home page shows the same closures as lines and pins. For the official word, the City posts closures on TREC (trecthefort.com) and INDOT posts state-road work on 511IN (511in.org).
See current Fort Wayne road closuresWhere does Detour FW get its information?
From public sources: City of Fort Wayne TREC (traffic related events and closures), INDOT's public 511IN work-zone feed, the Allen County Sheriff's Department activity log (traffic calls only), Citilink rider alerts, the City of New Haven, event calendars from Memorial Coliseum and Purdue Fort Wayne athletics, National Weather Service alerts for Allen County, traffic headlines from WANE 15 and 21Alive, and traffic posts on X from @FortWaynePolice, @INDOTNortheast and @JGfortwayne. Every item links back to its original source.
Full list of sourcesHow often is the traffic information updated?
The site re-checks its source feeds about every 15 minutes. Posts on X are checked hourly. The Allen County Sheriff's activity log is published by the Sheriff's Department about a day later, so it shows yesterday's crashes rather than live ones.
Does Detour FW cover I-69, I-469 and the state highways?
Yes. INDOT work zones in Allen County, including I-69, I-469, US 24, US 27, US 30 and state roads such as SR 1, SR 3, SR 14, SR 37 and SR 930, come from INDOT's public 511IN work-zone data feed.

The crashes page shows the Fort Wayne Police Department's morning crash posts on X and the Allen County Sheriff's traffic calls (crashes, hazards and disabled vehicles), which are posted about a day behind. Detour FW is not a live 911 feed, so a brand-new crash may not appear yet.
Fort Wayne and Allen County crashesIs Detour FW an official government site?
No. Detour FW is an independent local site that gathers public information in one place. Data can be incomplete or delayed, so always follow posted signs and officers on scene. In an emergency, call 911.
How can I get Fort Wayne traffic updates by email?
Sign up for the free Detour FW Sunday email. Every Sunday it rounds up the big closures, new construction, last week's crash hotspots, events that will snarl traffic and Citilink bus detours for the week ahead.
